Tips for a Perfect Cake Smash Shoot and Where to Get Baby-Friendly Cakes
Cake smash shoots are a delightful way to celebrate your baby's milestones. These sessions capture the joy and curiosity of your little one as they explore and interact with a beautifully decorated cake.
At Studio Kinu, cake smash shoots are done within our existing styled set backdrops, providing a beautiful and cohesive setting for your photos. Please note that cake smash shoots can only be done on weekdays, with a minimum of a classic session where the family photos will be done first, followed by the cake smash portion. A clean-up fee of $30 will be imposed for each cake smash session.

To ensure a successful and safe cake smash shoot, here are some key considerations:
Safety First: Choose a cake that is made with baby-friendly ingredients. Avoid using common allergens like nuts, and ensure the cake is free from artificial colors and flavours that might irritate your baby's sensitive system.
Soft and Messy: The cake should be soft enough for your baby to easily smash and dig into. Creamy frosting and a spongy texture make for great, messy fun and are easier for little hands to handle.
Simple Decorations: While intricate designs are beautiful, simpler decorations are safer and easier for babies to interact with. Avoid small decorations that could pose a choking hazard.
Outfits and Props: Dress your baby in something cute but easy to clean. Consider using props that add to the fun but don’t distract from the main event—the cake! Also, remember to bring an extra set of clothing for your baby, pack extra wet wipes and diapers, as cake smash shoots can get quite messy. You may also get dirty while cleaning your baby up, so bring extra clothes for yourselves too!
Practice at home: Some babies may take a while to warm up to the cake. We suggest parents buy a smaller cake for their child to practice touching and smashing at home before the session. This can help the child get used to the idea and prevent them from being shocked during the shoot. Bringing some of your child's favourite small snacks, such as rice puffs, can also help. We can place these on the cake to encourage them to interact with it. Additionally, consider bringing aesthetically pleasing spoons to scoop the cake as a way to entice your child to try it since your child would have already associated well with spoons by then if they have started on solid food.
